Question new model 8 lug hub caps question

I finally got the correct lug nuts to install hub caps on my 72 C20 w/ 2500HD wheels. I tried using the deeper 1 ton caps but they dont catch the threads. The other caps are too short and bump the axle. Should I use a spacer to push it out or try cutting down the 4" deep caps. I think it will tear them up but I just may try it. Anybody else have this problem ?

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

Are you referring to the plastic caps?

Can you post photos? If they are the caps that I'm thinking of, I have a set of Chevy caps. They look kinda funky on my GMC.

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

These are the caps. I am thinking about cutting down the bigger caps to be able to secure them to the lugnuts. They are too deep, but the other style is too short.

you can installyour old normal lugnuts to hold your rear wheeel on, then run the new lugnuts on top of them. The center bcaps won't be seated all the way down on the wheel, but they will go on.

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

Longhornman- I tried that but the lugnuts only catch a 1/4 turn so the ends up a little wobbly. I figured they would vibrate loose that way.

Special-k- I know they are dually caps. I figured they would work. I think Im gonna cut them with a dremel tool. If that doesnt work, I will do the way longhornman said.

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

The non dual caps work perfectly with the conversion lug nuts and no modification

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

I have the non-dually GMC caps on my C-20 and they fit perfect.

Re: new model 8 lug hub caps question

Thanks for all the replies. I cut off 3/8" and they fit great. My camera is tweeked so I cant take pics or I would post it. I used a Dremel with a cut off wheel. It took about 30 min. or so but it came out pretty clean. Thanks again
