Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

Here is my truck which I have not touched...not sure anyone has. I know it has a brand new starter so this might be a replacement alternator as well. I did not check to see if it still had the voltage regulator.

Thanks for the pictures and the information. I will take a look when I get home tonight and see if I can figure out what is going on.

Re: Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

From your pictures it looks like your ALT pulley is aft and needs to be moved forward.

It could be as simple as a washer in the wrong place (see attached pic)

You would be surprised as to how many v belt pulleys are out of alignment, normally it’s a small amount even from the factory. Throw in replacing water pumps and alternators it can be visibly noticeable (not all parts are made exactly the same). If you want to fine tune your v belt pulley alignment the technique/concept to figuring out how much shimming or movements of parts are required, I show how in this “How To” http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=318240 concept will work on 6 cylinders.

Mine looks like the illustration you posted and is aligned perfectly...the picture I took for pseigmund is a little off.

Re: Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

My apologies for my misunderstanding of why the pictures where posted.

If pseigmund is having alternator alignment problems what I posted might help him out. Because I don’t know the whole story I might have supplied input that was not needed or sought sorry.

Re: Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

That is a 292 engine. It takes a different pulley then the others. Often people buy a reman alt. & dont change the pulleys. The 292 pulley has a space between the alt. fan & pulley groove. The lower bracket is different from a 250 also but I think you are ok there.

Re: Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

The pulleys are different on some engines. This is a 65 292 with the deeper pulley, yes the 292 was green in 65. But there are also 2 styles of alternator brackets that control the alignment too.

Re: Alternator Alignment for pseigmund

Bruce88,

Thank you for the diagram, very helpful. I haven't had a chance to figure out what is wrong but will let you know when I find out. Good information on the different alt pulleys for 6 cylinders. Thanks guys, Pete
