Ignition Wire from Fuse Block - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys, I'm finally back, a little bit. I want to get my 67 back up and running again, and this is the only thing in my way. Last fall, when I installed my new distributor, the wire from the fuse block burned off, and is keeping the truck from running. I also need a new coil. What's the proper way to wire up an external coil HEI setup? Thanks for all the help.

That wire, if original, should be a resistance wire. You'll need to pull that wire/connector from the harness and run a new wire (non resistance) from the hei to the box. The connector is replaceable itself, as sometimes it gets damaged when pulling it out of the box/harness. But with care, you can reuse the connector.

I'm not sure if you definately need a fuse inline or somewhere else on that harness for this.

I used 12 guage wire from firewall to distributor.

For the connector on the firewall, if you can't salvage the old one, see if NAPA has pn NW 725145. That's the one you need.

You need to explain what the wire is and where it originates IOW what was it connected to in the fuse block. What brand is the external HEI coil and does it require a resistor or does it run full 12 volts. It should have a positive connection for the ignition wire and another connection for the distributor.
I think the other guys missed the bolded part in your post.

Well, we messed something up, because I tried hooking the coil up to direct power, and the coil started smoking..... (no one was hurt in the process of this)

I believe it's a brown wire. I guess I can't get to it for a week, because my parents are having people over in the shop, so I can't make a mess, and I have to clean up in there first. It doesn't help that the wires are a rats nest of cobbled together crap.
