I'm new
Last year I got 2k from a mentoring program as compensation for helping out a person in need. I needed a truck as I have an older home and lots of little wish list projects namely Motorcycles. I got my first bike about 4 years ago. a 66 honda 305 dream. I love this little scooter. unlike everyone around me this bike has a distingushing character. On top of this restoration wich is 99% complete I began a Kawasaki stunt bike project. I pulled an 88 Ninja 600r old from behind a guys barn and tore it down. the motor is beautiful and the frame is straight. It did have some issues though. wrecked off road it was packed with sand and since it sat squirels had nested in it. once tore down I could begin looking for parts. I got on e-bay and found a 81 kaw 440. lots of good parts in fact the bike is really to nice to tear down for parts, but as it has no title, it is parts. I did have some fun with it first. just this past fall I bought a 94 CBR that is absolutly mint. No reason to do anything but enjoy the ride on that one for now.
as I said, I needed a truck for all my little missions in life. I was looking for an older diesel to convert to bio when I found my 73 el camino 350. So you might scoff and say "dude that's not a truck" well I grew up with V8 power and could not say no to my first true muscle. My first car was a 56 210 chevy I saved for about 10 years as a kid to buy that car from my dad. 5000 later I had a lot of hard times before me on that one. later once nearly complete I gave it to my sister as a wedding gift. damn that was dumb she devorced 2 years later. Good news on that came when her new husband (a car freak) started dating her. His dad had once tried to get my car off my father before I bought it. Well he got my car he had to give my sister her own family to get it but he got it. My next car was a 64 ford fairlane. true love there but that car was not a good investment for restore. Got a lot of miles out of that one 267,000 or so when I sold it still running strong. then my 74 international travel all. perfect for restoration yet I was in college and gas kept march up the cost vine. hard to keep up with cost in a 392 big block. rather than park it and restore it, I sold like a fool. so now I'm settle down a bit in life and I needed a truck I found this old girl I named her elke. after my first wife. Total b- but way hot. in hopes with this love I get what I want out of her. 67,000 original miles some rust and in need of a frame off but I'm starting with the mechanicals. I'll drive her for a few years then tear her completely down and reserect it's "spirit". so that's a bit of my history. nice to be here and I look forward to working on some ideas. Like a hybrid bio gas conversion for my truck. |

Re: I'm new
So the top end got pulled on elke. ajustments were made and she now runs. FINALLY! I tore out the interior as soon as I got her. My roomate doesn't mind the seat, panels, carpet (kept only for measurments), and trim laying around my dining room; but other people call it Odd. They should worry more about the 4 cylinder motor in my kitchen, but hey "passion before congeniality".
You would be amaized at how many places an el camino can leak from. I now have no mechanical leaks, acsept the exhaust, but the interior is like a magnet for rain. I know were the leaks are, why they are and how to stop them permanently, which from what I learned is more than what they offered factory. It's not there fault really. we have better materials now. so there's were I am at. Over the next 2 weeks or so I'm going to repace the interior I tore out with one I sealed, cleaned, painted, hammered out, and amplified. The hammered out part is custom floor pans I hammer formed in the back yard. the amplified is that there is no F'in way I am fixing and using an am radio from 1974. it's not worth the repair. Though I did work in electronics for a while so I could fix it if I get a bad case of insomnia. so there I am. I have a field car ie. rust rod that runs and is almost ready to take her maiden voyage around the block. all great and timely since my monte carlo got totaled, by me, some bad weather, and a guard rail. Not a good evening |
