Re: shaved stake pockets

Im pretty sure thats how this one was done as all the other patches seem to be done that way. Not for sure though since I just got it.

Re: shaved stake pockets

if u referring to the pre-cut stake pockets pieces, save yourself a few bucks and cut your own out of some scrap body panel and weld em in.

Re: shaved stake pockets

The previous owner of my 71 filled the stake holes. I wish he didn't, because I would like to use the holes for tie downs. I don't want stuff sliding around hen I use the truck as a truck.

Re: shaved stake pockets

Cut your own, it's very easy to do. Cut one to fit good, trace it for the others, then I welded in subtle u shaped hooks inside the bed for tie downs.

Re: shaved stake pockets

Here is how you do it. Take one 78 Ford truck bed. Cut a chunk out of it like Frizzle is doing. Weld that chunk over the stake pocket like Eric is doing, grind smooth....simple.

Re: shaved stake pockets

I filled mine in before paint. Looks good on a hot rod truck with a wood bed!

i put my tie-downs at the bottom of the bed in all 4 corners. bought the chrome D-ring type for trailers. i have found that they are a lot more useful at the bottom of the bed because you can secure a load of any height whereas if the load is not above the height of the bed the stake holes are almost useless. i've welded up all the stake holes in my trucks since 91 when i bought my 1st new truck, and most if not all new trucks come with the tie-downs at the bottom including my avalanche which has them along the wall top and bottom on all 4 corners.
