Easy bucket seat upgrade for 73-87 chev trux

while building my latest projest i came across this neat upgrade.was at the local wrecking yard and came across this 87 burban,it had the silverado interior with captains chair buckets and console.both buckets were in showroom shape and the console had only minor wear,didn't hesitate to shell out the $40 cdn for the lot.anyways,made sure i chiseled the front inner mounting tabs that the seat frame bolts to.got hom and found that the 2 outside boltholes lined up perfectly.took the seat back out of the truck and took the torch,heated up the inner rear bolt hole on frame,tweaked it upward,cause on the trux they are the reversed angle.removed carpet cause the insulation on it is extremely flamable,dont bother trying the wet cloth trick.bolted seat back into place and attached the front mounting tab to the seat bracket and zapped it with the mig,then removed seat to properly weld tab into place.make sure to grab the rear mounting bracket from the console when removing it from the burban.any other questions,email me

$40 is a heck of a deal. I've heard that it's a fairly easy conversion. How high does the seat sit? Is it the standard height of a standard bench?

I did the exact same thing to 76 chevy pickup, but the front sat to low for me. I felt like I was gonna slide outta the seat, so i shimmed up the front a little till It got to where I liked it and it was great after that.

That's gonna be my next project. Will all 80's burban seats fit as easy as yours did or should I look for a certain year? Any pics would be appreciated.

80 burban should be the same deal,not as much comfort though,mind you the brackets will be the same too also the tab that mounts on the floor.the captains buckets i have resemble those in the conversion vans and would not be suprised if they aren't the same mounts underneath.i was in dire need of buckets and could not find truck brackets anywhere.they seem to be scarce,so the modified suburban bracket was my only choice and for that price i just had to make those work.

just stripped out 5 ,73-80 chevs last month all longboxes,could likely help you out a bit with some parts,can work you out a decent deal on stuff.Also have a supplier of aftermarket iso 9002 certified body panels for 73-87 chev trucks which means great fit considering GM uped the price of their doors to $800 each and everything else went way up also.

i have a few options for bedsides,there is a box i know of that i can get for a pretty good price,it has been reworked but the bodywork on the pass. side above the rear wheel is starting to show,it is on an 86 so the filler door is on the drivers side.the best option ,providing you are gonna keep this truck for many years would be go see Reg at Walker Auto Parts www.walkerautoparts.com and i think the bedsides are selling for around $500 each,make sure your bed floor isn't rotted out though,thats the impossible part to buy,if this problem arises get in touch and i will set you up with a wood bedfloor or metal whichever route you choose
