Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

I have a '67 swb Chevy, and I need a 2-piece for suspension purposes. I'm bagging and don't want to cut into the cab. Question is, could I get one off a longbed or something? I just need the 2-piece, not sure where the guy want the joint, but I wonder if I can get one from a longbed and cut it, may be cheaper. I have a 68 GMC longbed truck.

I need to know this too. I have a one piece as well, and have figures that depending on the motor placement and the tranny it will depend on how much I have to notch the cab. I'd rather just run a 2 piece and be done with it, but done even know where to begin looking. Bump cause I'm interested too

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

After reading both of ya'lls post I'm confused, which doesn't take awhole lot to do, but why do you think a 2 peice drive shaft will help you?
The only thing it will do is give you more up and down travel from the center bearing to the rear axle. The front half will still be at the same level as the transmission, and it will be stationary through to the center bearing.
Can you give a little more info on what you are wanting to do.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

With a bagged truck that is laying frame, the rear of the cab gets in the way of the driveshaft when laid out if you have a one piece driveshaft. You can notch the cab, and how much will depend on rear tire size and re type of thansmission, as some of the tailshafts are longer than others. With a 2 piece shaft, the carrier bearing can be placed at the rear of the cab, and the axle can articulate without the driveshaft going up into the cab.

It makes sence in my head, so I hope it clears it up for ya. Sometimes things don't come out like I would want them to. Ha!

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

OK that's what I was hoping you where talking about. If that is the case then yes a 2 peice should be just what you need. Put the drive shaft in the transmission and see where it needs to go and have cut lengthened. Have the cross member moved to mount the bearing and it's done. You may run into a problem driving it with it layed out though with a lot of angle in the u-versals.

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

I myself have a 350t long tail tranny and in my case, my D-shaft will get into the cab, and possibly in the floor of the truck itself. I will have measurements on my 2-piece in a few days when we can get to it. I have a longbed truck which I believe has the 2-piece parts I need. I may be able to rob stuff from it. I don't believe my angle when laying should affect anything. I'm hoping the angle won't be to bad, if so I'll run 2 U-joints behind the carrier bearing to help that.

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

I have a factory two peice sitting in the garage I can measure for you. I'm fixing to take it and have cut for my truck and have all new bearing installed.
I have the one in it now but the center bearing is causing a lot of vibes in the cab so I have this other one I'll have done and it will be a back up. I'm just going to swap them out and I'll take the other one later on when funds allow.

Re: Need help: 2 piece D-shaft question

it might be cheaper th have one built than hacking on an old one, instead of mixing and matching specific slips stubs tubing size. have a driveline shop build you something out of new rediliy available parts? than make the 2 pieces whatever lenth you want/ make rear shaft as long as possible for better angles.

Check out this link, Inland Empire driveline, they custom build a 2-piece that is bomb proof, they have an ordering guide in there as well to help you get the correct measurements from the correct places.
