Boot on Brake Power booster
Anyone have a picture on how the boot fits on the power booster? My boot dosn't seem to be long enough to fit all the way down. The metal ring that goes around the boot seems to big also. Any ideas?

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
Looks like the wrong boot. The one for the booster should have a bunch of holes. At least mine do. I'll look for a pic.

Here's a pic of the boot installed. I think I got them from GMC Paul. Looks like you're also missing the metal plate that hold it in place. It's the silver looking piece.

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
I took a picture of the old boot before I threw it away, and it looks like the one I got. I just don't have it anymore to compare sizes. I have a big metal washer that goes on the end, but your boot looks much different. Does anyone else have any pics of their setup? Where there different setups from the factory?

Here's a couple of pics of the boots from the vendors catalogs for 67-72 trucks. The one on the left is the booster one. |

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
I checked tonight and I was sent the wrong boot. The boot fit perfectly on the firewall. What vendors sell the boot with holes that I need? Should I be concerned that my booster doesn’t have that metal plate??

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
Basically that boot is just a dust shield and also for looks. Check with GMC Paul or other vendors on this site. They should all carry it.
If you can't find the metal plate at a salvage yard, I bet you could fabricate one easily from a piece of sheet metal. If you need, I can send you the measurements from the one I have. |

What does the metal plate do? I assume the plate just sits there and is held on by the hangers? Please send some measurements. Last edited by Hawker7; 02-07-2009 at 10:17 AM. |

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
As I mentioned, it's just to hold it in place. I don't see where it servers any other purpose. The boot on my booster is a tight fit so probably wouldn't even need it if I didn't have one.
Anyway, the plate is rectangular shaped 4-1/8 inch by 4-1/4 inch. Metal looks like stainless and real thin guage. I don't have a guage tool so don't know for sure-maybe 22 guage? Since the holes are made to fit the bolt pattern it might be better for me to trace the outline of it and send you the pattern. If you want to send me a pm with an address I'll mail you the pattern. |

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
I finally got the boot for my booster but think I might be missing some parts. The ring that was on there originally doesn’t seem the fit the new boot, and I'm not sure what else goes inside the boot? Am I missing any parts in there?

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
Your not missing anything here are some pics of new booster and boot. You have to pull on the boot to get it over the lip a little. the last picture is just what it looks like it is if you just shove it on.
You are missing the little foam piece that goes there but thats just for more protection from dirt Last edited by mbgmike; 03-09-2009 at 08:14 PM. |

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
thanks for the pics. There was a washer in there when I took it apart, but I'm not sure what it did. I also see you don't have the metal plate that others have. Was that only on some models?

Re: Boot on Brake Power booster
I got the boot from GMC Pauls. I put the boot on, but it looks way too big. The ring I have won't even fit over it. What am I doing wrong?
