85 GMC 3/4 - 350 questions

Hi all,

New to the board and got some questions.

I'm picking up a 85 GMC 3/4 Ton Pickup on Saturday. The engine is a rebuilt 350 (about 25K miles on it), and I was wondering if you know of any good mods I can do to it to beef up the horsies?

Right now, all I know is it's an LS9 rated at 160HP. I'd like to get it in the 200+ category.

Thanks in advance!
Leo

The easiest way to boost HP is probably through aftermarket headers and an aftermarket intake. Then, from there it's endless. You can add a performance carb, cam, heads, etc.... If you used the search function on this forum, you will probably find a bunch of good topics on how to boost your performance and on what brands people are using to do so.

Welcome to the board! You will like it here!!!

Why thank ya' sir!

My main concern is price. If I can go to salvage yard, and pick and pull some better heads, I'd rather go that route. Are Vortec heads compatible with this crate?

Just feeling the water. This is going to be my daily driver, so I really want it to be very functional (not to mention put some ricers to sleep)!

TIA!

No problem. You can buy new or used Vortec heads that will work great for your 350. Any 350 vortec heads will work, you'll just have to get a new intake that's specifically for the vortec setup. Vortec heads are probably the cheapest way to get the most HPs out of your engine.

Just out of curiosity, how much HP will I gain? I plan on putting the engine on a stand for awhile, so I may as well do it right while it's out.
