gas tanks

ok, i'm going to relocate my gas tank to the rear frame on my lowered 68 C10.
i have read a bunch of the posts here on using the various aftermarket tanks and one from a early 70s Blazer. i'm pretty tight on my funds these days with the job market and all. I don't really see any reason i can't use a tank from a new car as it just fits between the frame rails which can be made to be smaller by adding additional metal. The tanks on cars don't have as much hanging down either and they are readily available for under 20 bux.

also, what about using saddle mount tanks from the early 80s trucks? they look like they might just bolt right in and need the filler neck added to the bed. or, if you get really creative, leave the filler neck in the cab and run the fill tube to it. This may some what defeat the purpose if you are woried about fire safty though. The tank is bad placement for side impact and the gas is still in the cab as far as flamability and fumes. A good seal will fix the fume problem i guess. i'm not to woried about the side impact issue, so i don't care about that crap. i just want to take advantage of the usable area in the cab. I'm planning on locating my nitrous bottle just under the floor with an acces panel through the floor of the center console to reach the knob. This puts it outside and meets inspection rules at the track. I will use a skid plate to protect the tank though! :}

Re: gas tanks

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The only problem I could find when I was researching it was the difference in the ohms in the newer sending units. This will make your fuel guage not work properly. I would love to get some more info on this as well if anyone has used a newer tank.
