Need th400/np205
Long story short, more issue with the pulling truck build. Went to the tranny guy today and found out my 350 was about ready to gernade, broke the middle carrier?? (not sure what the real name of the piece was, it is in the middle of teh tranny and rides against the ridges in the tranny case itself) Probably ruined the case also. Decided I just need to step up and get a 400/205 combo.
Anyone have one for a decent price, I want a rebuildable tranny so dont worry about that. OR I have 3 2wheel drive TH400 but I dont know how to make them work with the transfercases I have. I have a 205 for a TH350 and a 205 for a SM465. I dont think either of them help me??? One last question what is a "K" case and is it necessary?? thanks guys

Re: Need th400/np205
well from what i have learned the th350 205 has a smaller front bearing then the th400 but i was told you can have it converted. the sm465 might have the same as the th400 but not to sure. i did a google search on np205s and found alot of info that way. good luck!!
here check this out it will tell you more... http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techart...sion_kits.html Last edited by og350; 03-11-2009 at 10:46 PM. |

Re: Need th400/np205
You need to get the input bearing and shaft for a 400/205 case and have the case machined for the bigger bearing. You will use a 2wd 400 trans and the male tranny output shaft will slide directly into the female input of the 205, no coupler like a 350/205 setup uses. Check with offroad design, they may have what you need. The 400/205 adapters are pretty expensive too.

Re: Need th400/np205
Was really trying to stay away from having the case machined. Anyone out there have a 400/205 setup in Missouri?????

Would love to buy one from wither of you but between shipping or gas money probably not feasible.

Re: Need th400/np205
I have one too. The tranny was in my 89, originally a 2wd bolt on yoke, usd a 208/241 adaptor with a 2" thick spacer, bolted up to a Furd 205. I have an early 205, 8 track style but has slip yoke...I can get good prices on shipping.

Re: Need th400/np205
Maybe for the trouble of a conversion you could look into getting a th350 built specific for sled pullin?

Re: Need th400/np205
3quartertime - That was my original plan, but during disassembly and inspection of the TH350 I found that I split the intermidiate drum and would have broke the case with just a little more abuse. All of that was just doing some massive burnouts......... never enev hooked to the sled yet. So I figure if the truck can break a TH350 now it will destroy it once a sled is hook to it.
