What are these #'s on the frame? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I was taking a look at this chunk of frame from a parts donor that I kept for the automatic trans crossmember, and I noticed these numbers. No, they are not the VIN number. Are they like the part number? I got curious and checked my Panel and it has similar numbers in the same place. They are in the blue circle on the frame chunk, for reference.

The parts donor was a '68 C20 'Burb and that number is: 3935815-430 and under that is: 2-8-68-3

The one on the Panel, a '68 C10, is: 3935809-420 and under (really above-these are upside-down on the frame) is: 11-9- -2. I wonder if these lower #'s are a date, but they just didn't stamp the '68'?

Just wondering.

i know that's where the part number is on my one ton. I googled the number and it was verified as the p/n

Thanks, Andy. I figured that's what it was-just wanted to know for sure. So that means there is a difference between 1/2 and 3/4 ton frames? I've heard both ways-same or not same-but if there is different part numbers between 2 68's there must be.

been my understanding that there wasn't any difference either... not on the bare frame rails.
Would one of them happen to have the power steering indentation and the other one doesn't?

frames can seit around there for ages stacked up like fire wood. Although, I guess if the numbers are close together.....
I'll look into that this summer when I have the cab off the longhorn

IIRC, the 'Burb did have power steering, but I'm not 100% sure-I didn't save that part of the frame. I'll have to look at some old pictures and see. My Panel, on the other hand, has the indentations for P/S, but didn't come with. Some PO put it on at some point.

I bet thats one thing you do miss about texas......You could work on your truck year round

actually, I had no roof nor shade where I worked... so from june through september, I couldn't work on my junk unless I had to.
