Question Need advice on what year trannys/transfer cases will swap....

Hi all, I have a '71 GMC 1500 2WD w./ a 350c.i./TH-350 and have found more '73 and up trucks w./standard trannys and transfer cases than the '67 to '72 ones, and a heck of alot cheaper too!-LOL!

My question is; Is it possible to easily swap a standard tranny out of one from a '73 and up one into my auto. P/U ? I've heard they 're a different frame, but since Chevy/GMC used the same motor mounts up thru the late '80's (for SB's anyway), I thought maybe the trannys/transfer cases might easily swap over too? Or would I need adapters, fabricated mounts, -etc;?--- THANKS for ANY/ALL HELP you can send my way!!

Also, On '70's thru '80's bellhousings...Will a 250 L-6, 292, bell housing on a standard or auto. tranny take either a SB or BB Chevy motor. Again, MANY Thanks as I am clueless, but energetic!!!

Re: Need advice on what year trannys/transfer cases will swap....

Chevys pretty much kept the same bolt patterns on all their bellhouse and engines from the 50's into the late 80's so you can swap just about anything in those years. I took the six out of my 55 and bolted in a 427 but the trans wouldn't stand the HP. My 69 has a 1986 350 stroked to a 383 with 75 T400 and a 208 Transfer case. the only thing you may have to change is motor mounts and crossmembers.
