1965 short stepside .. started
Sanded it down with 80grit - painted it white epoxy for now. Looks better than it did. now i can start doing the bodywork and doing one panel at a time. I got tired of looking at it in 5 different colors.

Nice work. Big improvement just doing that. I bet it felt great to get that done! Can't wait to see more. How long did it take to sand?

Re: 1965 short stepside .. started
To sand it .. we started saturday morning and pulled all the easily removed items off ... mirror, door handles, etc. Then hooked up two D.A. sanders to my compressor, 2 boxes of 80 grit 3m hook iit 2 paper and went to town. We only burnt through 3/4th of one box of sand paper sanding it down. We just put our D.A.'s on "spin" or grind mode and pretty much ground it all down in 80 grit. I used my angle head grinder with 80 grit scotch brite pads and hit the hard to reach areas and hand sanded what I couldnt with 80. Blew it off .. washed it down with laquer thinner and sprayed it with white epoxy and then 1 coat of white filler primer.
I have 2 new front fenders from bowtie bits out of wichita, and 2 real nice fenders for my bed and 1 good door up in my attic. I have them done primed sanded and painted, but untill I tear the truck apart to put all my new pieces on and jamb everything I just wanted to paint it to make it look better since i drive it to work everyday and it was such a damn eyesore .. lol Its hard to tear it apart when you drive it everyday to work. Jumping in my ford escape doesnt feel as right as my old truck .. lol Thanks everyone for the good words! |
