u-joint help... delema

ok, i found a drive shaft that is the correct length for my application. but i need to replace the yoke with a yoke that matches my trans. the yoke on the drive shaft uses plastic injected type u-joints, the yoke i need to use takes the snap rings on each end. is there anything i can do? thanks guys

Yes. Take the yolk and shaft to your quality auto parts shop. They can special order a u-joint. I call it a bastard joint. Sure they have another name for a mixed size joint. Or any speed shop that balances shafts n drive trains can fix you up for slightly more bucks.

If you live where alot of dirt track racing is done they might just have them in stock. I know they do in my town. as far as part numbers that all depends, if there good at there job it shouldn't be that much trouble finding.

they are called conversion joints. I had a similar issue, took it to a driveshaft and in about 10 seconds they knew what conversion u joint i needed. 20 bucks later i was out the door.

if they dont make a convesion joint for the differnt types of yolks, they will need to cut and weld on the proper yoke, and balance the driveshaft. good luck.

You can try the guys at Pacific truck parts/Salinas drive line. They are pretty dialed on that stuff they just rebuilt my driveline after the center support bearing took a dump. They should be able to offer some help at least. The number is 831-422-4634 They can cut and re-weld different yolks end caps ect and then balance the whole thing for you.

take it to a drive line shop. Adding a yoke that didn't come on it will dicate getting it ballanced again.
Take it to a pro, do it once, do it right, and never have to look at it again for 10 - 20 years.

That injected plastic stuff is a factory only deal. Any replacement joint you get after that is going to be a snap-ring type. They just move the snap-ring to the inner flage of the yoke like a front axle on a 4x4.
