1960 front suspension swap
Im planning on doing a front suspension swap on my '60 for a bag set-up, discs, and possibly power steering.
I have read on here about what year's will work as far as an "almost" direct bolt-in swap. my question is, does it make any difference if the "new" suspension/core support is off of a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? any other advice/warning will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. Chris |

Re: 1960 front suspension swap
Agreed......I don't quite understand what the core support has to do with swapping a front suspension.

AKA radiator support. sorry, maybe i'm using the wrong word to describe what i mean... this is what i'm talking about... right or wrong i've always known this as the core supprt and referred to what you're pointing out as the rad. support/saddle. doesn't mean that i'm right tho. |

Re: 1960 front suspension swap
The Item that you have circled is the front suspension crossmember. Still the C20 crossmember is the same as C10. You can use the C20 A-arms but if you wish to swap to 5X5 you will need the C10 spindles and brakes. The core support is the item that Joe pointed out.

Re: 1960 front suspension swap
One of my buddies said he used the C20 suspension with the C10 spindles but, if he remembers correctly that the C20 lower control arm dose have a larger bore but that the taper on the ball joint is the same as C10 and he was able to use the C10 spindles. That also was on 73 up suspension with the rubber bushings. That was fifteen years ago so guess we need to verify.

Re: 1960 front suspension swap
I took the lower control arms off of a 69c10 and put my cross shafts in them and balljoints for a 84c10. The upper was no problem the 84 joint went right in. It's the idler are that gave me trouble. I forgot what year I had to use for that. But I had to lower the mount and drill out new holes.

Re: 1960 front suspension swap
The '88-'98 lower balljoints are supposed to fit the '67-'87 C20 lower control arms, but I don't know how the taper and size of the spindle of that balljoint compares to the '73-'87 C10 lower balljoint. Let us know what your buddy finds out.
