BBC vs SBC
ok guys need your opinions on my build!!! My current truck 82 k20 aka Big Red has a 350 gm crate motor(1992 target master) with TH350/NP205 nothing real fancy but it does the job i.e. burnouts, mud runs, ect. BUT I have a 86 crew cab c3500 I bought for $800 with a 454, TH400 thats in great shape, can't find a buyer on it so I'm thinking about ripping all I need off, an junking the rest, it's a shame cuz this truck is in great shape!! The frame I just purchased I am going to build from the frame up, it will be a show truck/DD/weekend mudder, so I need help in deciding which way to go. I am keeping both trucks, one will be just to scare the sh*t out of everyone at the street light the other more for the oohs an ahhhs!!!

The crew would be sweet with all that done to it as you know you don't see a lot of them up in the air with a BB.. That's what I would do..

if youre going swap in the 454 and TH400, you know theres going to be a bit of cost involved to put the NP205 on the 2wd transmission, right?
like tvblazer said i think a well done crew cab would be cool, with quite some lift to it, lotsa chrome, and a stout big block. if you put a bit of work into that 350, it'll scare the hell out of most people easy enough just my 2 cents

I hate Blazers, I think they are fugly. Everybody builds one, why not do something other than what the bandwagon does?? Besides, I'd like to haul stuff along with having buddy's going for a ride....

Where's the blazer band wagon? I think SWB pickups is the bandwagon EVERYbody's on. I haven't seen ANY blazers in quite a while around here that weren't beat the crap out of. but there's lots of swb pickups.
I like big blocks if you want wow factor, just say to yourself, small-block. ok now say BIG BLOCK. sounds better doesn't it. a lot of people want to see the small blocks, bout everybody want to check out the big block. 781 castings are a large oval port design that work well in a mild big block application . They flow well enough for a nice street/strip application and can be found on the internet at pretty good prices.

a nicely built up crew cab would look sick. i would stick with the bb in it.
as far as bandwagon, short bed is the "hot" thing right now. everyone is making lwb into swb. i like any gm or gmc truck lwb or swb, blazer, burban. |

I didn't mean to put anyone down, I was just replying to what mybigshot said. I'm a 4wd guy, and Blazers are all over the place. People build them up for crawling and what not. If your building a 2wd Blazer, that is cool, cause there aren't really any around here. Go big block....

If I had my 'druthers, I'd leave the BB in the crew, clean it up and drive it. Can't beat a crew for long towing in style and comfort. A BB, especially if you stuff it full of go fast parts, ain't gonna MPG very well anyway, so you might as well go for comfort and style. (although, I towed a lot with my '77 'burb. Wife, kids and a 26 Ft boat. The kids slept in the back of the burb, me and SWMBO had the "stateroom" on or off the trailer.
If you stuff the (warmed over ) BB in the mudder, the performance will be impressive, but the added weight on the front (around 300 lbs.) will change the balance, tracking and steering effort. Talk to the BB mudder guys, there are things you can do to help in the mud. BTW, I've got a fresh set of Gen 6 Vortec heads that will wake up that 454, Edelbrock makes a manifold to stay carbed with the vortec's for around $200 bucks, if you decide to go with iron heads, this is the cheap way to monster torque and reliability.
