liquids

ok, so what kind of fluid do i need to put in my transfer case(208) and what kind do i need to put in my front and rear axle? Ive heard that people put some times tranny fluid and other time gear oil. so what all do i need to fill that stuff up with? Also i cant seem to find a socket to fit the fill hole on the axle any suggestions?

Re: liquids

t-case is trans fluid.....axles are gear oil.........front axle use a wrench on the plug, and the rear axle "should" be 3/8 drive end (just use your 3/8 ratchet,no socket)

Re: liquids

Any of the Dextron / Mercon ATF fluids work in your 208. No mater what any body else tells you, never use gear oil, gear oil is too thick to properly lube the chain. You want to fill it through the 30mm plug just to the right of the tail shaft housing about 2/3 the way up the t-case. It should hold about 3.5 to 4 quarts. One more thing, you should always pull the fill plug before you drain the fluid to check to see if the t-case input seal is leaking. If ATF comes gushing out of the fill plug your t-cases input seal it leaking transmission fluid into the t-case & needs to be fixed before it smokes the transmission.
