Where would I get a Rag Joint at

I changed out the 69 manual steering box to a 72 power one, The rag joint seems to be different maybe , Anyone know where you can get a new one? Can not find one in my Classic parts catalog and O'Reilys has no idea what it is or where to get one...how do they stay in buisness?

Re: Where would I get a Rag Joint at

I just did mine.
I had a little trouble with getting the right one, since I didn't pay attention to to the teeth in my original. Seems the one with a flat spot with no teeth is pretty popular.
I bought mine from "the truck and car shop" in Orange county CA. The flat spot one was what the truck side of the shop carried, and the one with 360 degree tooth count came from the car side of the shop.

Just make sure you tell them what you need as far as the flat spot or all tooth model.

I think most of the board vendors carry these.

Re: Where would I get a Rag Joint at

Was it assembled, and how much? ...the reason I ask is tha only one that O'reillys had was special order and was 50 bones or they had a kit that was the bolts and the rubber dicsc, kinda cheesy if you ask me, it was there HELP brand line ? I know they are cheaper than that on the websites mentioned earlier, and a $13 dollar price was mentioned also?

Re: Where would I get a Rag Joint at

Yea, I did a lot of searching. The local parts houses (term used very loosely) had nothing but rebuild kits from the "help" section. Oh, and Napa... I have grown to hate this so called parts house! They couldn't tell a 60's SBC from a Toyota 22R if their life depended on it.

I paid close to 50 bones for my part at a resto shop. Found that the price was pretty average across the board from most of the popular resto shops.

I guess what I am sayin, is DON'T rebuild it... If you found that yours was ok to begin with, then it's no big deal to clean it up. But, like anything else that is rubber or joint related age will kill it. So if it's old and you can't remember if and when you ever replaced it, then it's a pretty good idea to replace the whole unit with a part that is a true replacement part.
