Steering wheel considerations...

Hey guys,

I'm currently enjoying my '66 Burb as a daily driver, and would like to replace my cracked stock wheel. My truck is an ex-State rig, and totally bare bones--no power steering.

I can find stock steering wheels all day for cheap, though I thought perhaps I'd like find something a little more unique. I found out that most anything Chevy made from about '38 and up will fit. Trouble is, the stock wheel is dished, and the rim gets pretty close to my leg already. If I chose a flatter wheel, or a larger diameter wheel, the rim would wind-up further forward, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't fit in my truck anymore.

Wondered what you guys had done. I like my stock interior, though I wouldn't mind something a period-correct, and custom. No plans for tilt-column or power steering. I'm a powerful believer in the spinner-knob!

If you can find them, this 61 impala wheel looks cool, and has a pretty deep dish to it. also the early 60's oldses hada pretty deep dish to them.

If you don't mind using arm power I would go with a 15" wheel. Stock is 17" and most aftermarket wheels are 13". 15" became standard when cars started to move to power steering. I use a 15" wheel from an early 90's Chevy truck because it was cheap and not to fancy. Not positive if it will work for you, I have a newer steering column on mine.
