power steering box ?

I am in the process of doing a front suspension/steering rebuild on my 74 c10 and have a quick question. I noticed a shim of sorts under one of the mounting bolts for the steering box. Is this normal, or should I just leave it out when I bolt the new one up?

I will snap a few pics when I get the chance.

Thanks

Re: power steering box ?

I removed box and there were two more shims under the bolt directly above the lower shimmed bolt. As you can see in the pics the shims don't seem to be anything mass produced, or precision cut or that matter.

Jut seems odd that someone would space it out like this. There isn't anything in the way and the frame is straight.

Re: power steering box ?

Run: There should be NO shims of any sort between the gear and the frame!!! Possible frame is bent or box was replaced with wrong one, but the latter is unlikely. Look for indications of frame damage or slotting of bolt holes for bumper brackets, sway bar, motor mounts or spring hangers if 4WD. Also look for cracks around gear mounting points, our trucks are noted for this. Let us know what you find and how you found it. jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
