Any pictures out there? How would you powder coat bolts? Do the treads have to be cover?

I have powder coated bolts on a bike. In the picture below the caliper,disc and a few bolts are done in black, the front forks, caliper bolts were polished then coated clear and the bolts holding the disc to the wheel are done in almost chrome. You will want to bead blast the bolt then tape off the threads. It works well for bolts you don't remove often but will never take repeated removal and forget the ones you want to use an impact on.

Don't powder coat your crank and water pump pulleys what ever you do. Looks great, squeals like a 86 pontiac sunbird with a crappy transmission in the morning going up a steep hill. I powder coated my hood hinges and springs that came out nice

Here are some shots of my 67 SWB frame and misc. Also a set of wheels I had coated to match the center caps for my other 67. I have been coating small stuff for a while with the starter kit from Eastwood but I'm about to go into business and do some larger stuff and try to make some money and hopefully have some fun. I will post when I get the shop all setup. Mike

Never had the problem of squealing belts after coating them. The engine below has a powder coated oil pan, valve covers,air cleaner, intake, pulleys, timing cover. brackets and carb spacer.

Nice job....What's the process for doing the bolts like you did? Is this chrome powder? TJ

Thanks! Actually these are ARP stainless 12pt bolts from jegs.

I bead blast the bolts and degrease them. I then heat them up to 250 degrees for about 15 min to make sure all grease and oil are gone. I usually wire 5 or 6 bolts together and then tape off the threads. Once all that is done I shoot them with the powder of choice.

How about the Hood Hinge? Can you also do powercoat the spring? OR do you have to take it off? TJ

Anything that can carry voltage and withstand the curing temp can be powdercoated. There are some who are talented enough to be able to do plastic but I have not gained that skill. It is best to remove the spring and use some sort of method to expand it just enough so you can get complete coverage. I use a threaded rod and capture nuts to expand a spring.

I had my headers hi-temp powdercoated black. They look great against the orange block. I'll get pics up as soon as I can.
