Anyone shim out their P/S box to fit the non P/S box? I have been told to heat up the frame and hammer until it fits, however I just painted the frame and would rather not screw it up. Any ideas?

i believe vendors sell a kit with the brackets you need for this. Look for 67-68 power steering kit. or like you said torch it good luck here is a link http://www.gmcpauls.com/steering2.htm

I bolted mine right up to my 67 frame no problem with no shims

The biggest problem with "shimming" the box out (or using the brackets the vendors sell) is that your pitman arm ends up futher out and you have to rotate the arm to the pass. side a little, instead of being straight ahead. This causes you to have more steering in one direction then the other.

Not a major deal but something to note. Outside of that, it works fine. On frames ('68+), there is a dimple for where the box fits into.

It also makes the stearing feel "twitchy" or ultra sensative. I shimmed one on my 67 at one time and when driving over 50mph I didn't feel safe. WES
