Manifold to exhaust pipe
Do our trucks use any gaskets where the manifold connects to the exhaust pipe?
I checked LMC but don't see anything. |

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
They use an exhaust donut. You should be able to find 'em at your local parts store.

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
Ok so I took at a look at the manifold has a rounded edge where it goes into the pipe and the pipe is flared where it sits against this round piece.
Do you still need a gasket. |

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
Yeah just like Prong said. It's a donut style gasket. It fits right where the circles are that you are looking at. It's not flat like other gaskets.

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
So I need a gasket that fits over the rounded part on this manifold?

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
Yeah where the manifold and exhaust pipe meet. Your local parts store will have them. Tell them what you need, and they'll fix you up.

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
Hmmm. Mine have always fit pretty good. Maybe someone else will pop in and help out. Other than that I would say put it on the exhaust pipe where it fits, and then try and tighten it up. Sorry I can't help any more than that.

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
Is your manifold a smaller size than your exhaust?
IE: 2 inch manifold and 3 inch exhaust pipe.

Exhaust pipe is FLARED to fit over that rounded part. Which to me makes the seal but what happens when the truck is warm? And the pipe heats up? Would that not cause a air leak? |

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
OK now I'm confused, the donut type gasket fits inside the manifold and the exhaust pipe, you state the you have it over the manifold???
Unless your manifold is not the same as most of our trucks. I think a pic or two may help.

Manifold has a flange that is curved. This flange fits into the exhaust pipe which is flared. They are joined together by a 3 bolt bracket. |

Re: Manifold to exhaust pipe
With what you are trying to do, the external diameter of the manifold should match the internal diameter of the exhaust pipe so it fits inside and creates a seal. It's been so long since I have seen this type of set up I may have it wrong, your best bet is to take the truck to an exhaust shop, it may be a simple fix like a bigger or smaller donut.
