Help me with these rallies
I have these rallies on my 68. i guess they are 73 + rallies with the 10 hole pattern; 6 lug. I did my disc brake conversion and got the usual side effect of the front wheels moving out and now I'm worried about rubbing. I've looked for truck rallies to see if i can get these in different backspacing to tuck the front wheels a bit but i haven't seen this exact style - i found the 5 hole ralley and the regular truck ralley with more than 10 holes but not this exact one. what are they from and can I get them in multiple backspacing?

Re: Help me with these rallies
you could always have you wheel centers cut out and have the back spacing changed..it's not that expencive??

Re: Help me with these rallies
When I did the drum-to-disc conversion on my '69, the 8-inch wide wheels on the front did stick out and would rub on the wheel opening if it bottomed out or in a turn. So, I swapped them for some 7-inch wide wheels I had on my other '69. Solved that problem.
Those wheels didn't come out until about '76. I don't think there were any but 8-inch wide wheels. I am also going to guess that they have a 4-inch backspace. I wanted some new wheels so I ordered Wheel Vintiques from Summit Racing. Fronts are 15x8 with a 4-inch backspace. Rears are 15x10 with a 5-inch backspace. 245-60's up front and 275-60's out back round out the rolling stock.

Re: Help me with these rallies
Mine stick out a bit but they don't rub.As stated Wheel Vintiques(Ihtink) as well as Stockton has them and IIRC they do whatever width backspacing you need.

Re: Help me with these rallies
I'm kind of stuck between a rock and hard place here. I like the wheels and wanted to keep them so when i did my disc brake conversion I stuck with the 6 lug so I wouldn't need to replace the wheels. I guess i am a little surprised by how much the wheel moved out with the new spindles.
I have looked at Stockton and Wheel vintiques and if i went that route i'd be paying as much if not more than a pair of the new modular CPP spindles that would tuck the wheels in more. I guess these are the 4x4 wheels from the 70's rather than the stock truck rallies? Are regular truck rallies around in varying widths and backspacing or would I again be looking at custom made wheels? Thanks -Andy Last edited by Longstep70; 03-26-2009 at 12:38 PM. |

Re: Help me with these rallies
The 6-lug 4x4 rallies like you have are only available in 8" wide widths unless special ordered from a place like Stockton Wheel. The 5-lug 2wd rallies were originally available in 8", 7", and 6.5" widths.
You could go with a set of Vette style rallies available in 6 lug and correct backspacing. They would still be cheaper than the custom rallies from Stockton.

Re: Help me with these rallies
Just as a point of reference - I sent my rallies to Stockton Wheel a year or so ago - had them widened to 12" with a custom back space - cost = $135 each plus optional powder coating = $55 each. Very happy with the work.

Re: Help me with these rallies
I also have these wheels on my 70, and I am going to convert to disc brakes using my stock spindles. Will I have this same problem with the wheels being moved further out?
