I just installed a neew speedometer from Brother trucks. The speedometer needle jumps around (5mph +or-) I have a new cable in it already and I tried to lube the cable. It this common for the replacement speedos?

Re: jumpy speedo..

A dirty cable is usually the culprit.
Did you replace the whole cable or just the inner?May have gunk build up on the inside that needs to be cleaned.
Is the new cable binding, (cut a corner to sharp) something causing stress on the inner cable.

Re: jumpy speedo..

how long is the cable for a 350 with a 400 auto? just wondering. my speedo jumps because the cable that's on it now is from the original 3 speed column and it is real tight.

Re: jumpy speedo..

what did you try and lube the cable with?

they make a special speedo cable lube that is graphite based and it lubes and also polishes the inside of the cable housing for smooth operation/// using heavy grease white grease and similar will dry out and cake up causing drag and a jumpy needle
