Talking Sucess!!!!

boy am i a happy camper today...with the low hump in the 67 and the th400 and lokar shifter we werent going to be able to have enough clearance, there were a couple options with our problem, either get a 67-72 auto tranny crossmember or get a big hump and replace the small hump, since im on a budget me and my dad decided to make the 85 cross member work, and it did!!!the tailshaft was about 1 1/2" too high with the newer style member so what we did was cut out the top half of the center of the x member where the tranny bolts down and the welded a plate flat over the cut (if that makes sense) and then boxed the ends where we cut downwards, this probably sounds really complicated but it worked out well and we gained about 1 3/4" - 2" of clearance by doing this, so there should be plenty of room now, and finally i got to use my welding skills on the truck i know this isnt any special news to you guys but damn am i happy, ill post pics when they get developed and scanned and maybe they might come in handy for you guys that might want to try it

When I put my 67 swb stepside together, I had installed a TH400 on a factory auto cross member, with my truck being a small hump truck. As a matter of fact, I put that same trans in my 69, and no problems there either. I dunno, maybe I just got lucky.

Hey, its all cool...I felt good today about my truck, and all I did was wash it and vacuum out the mouse nest from inside the heater that blew all over the interior of my truck.
Actually makin an inprovement in your truck's condition is cool, you get a very big sense of accomplishment...thats what these old trucks are all about.

Well when I put my engine and TH400 tranny in my truck, at least some of you actually had a real crossmember... The guy I bought my truck from back in 2000, just left what he used, a piece of Channel Iron w/ holes dilled in to bolt to frame and hole drilled for Tranny Mount.... It is a Pain in the ass to work with but for now it is holding up untill I pull Engine and Tranny again, then I will switch it out for my 79 Crossmember...
