On March 11th I got a great present, My truck was almost stolen!!! The AHOLE tore my steering column up and they were almost there but couldnt get past my hidden ignition switch that I put in when I got it! WHEW! I spent 4 hours in Best Buy getting an alarm put in. I was saving for a paint job but now 375.00 is gone to the alarm and I dont know how much a column will be. Word to all of youall... Put a hidden switch in for your starter!!! it saved my truck.

Good point. I have one on my truck and an alarm and a few other little things to make it take longer for the theft. My truck is never far (except at stores or events) and Im always aware. I park in the garage every night now, because car theft is on the rise.

I've been through the exact same thing, hidden switch saved my truck. They got in through my old sliding rear glass, the next day I had a solid rear window put in. There were 3 of them, the main guy got 7 years! Mostly because he had a minor with him and they stole 3 cases of my CDs which put it over $500. I also got my CDs back because we caught them in my truck, got their tags as they took off, and the cops got them 10 minutes later. This was on a Sunday morning, the minor had been release from juvenile hall the previous Friday. Really taught him a lesson

I also have a tip for those of you with speakers behind your bench seat. They break the window open the door and swing the seat up. To prevent this I installed different door lock knobs that sink into the door (like a Ford

). So the door can not be unlocked without the key or a slim-jim (Ill prevent that later too). I also installed some hitch pins in the steel parts of the seat brackets. I installed one on each side. So in order to lift the seat up you have to pull a pin from each side. So if you break the window and cant get the door open (because the lock), then they may just try to lift the seat, which will also not move. So they may jump in now and try to pull both pins out. By this time I would hope to be outside.
I can post a few pictures if anyone is interested in these small modifications.

My truck was broken into when I first got it, in the parking lot at work, in broad daylight. The bastard stole the change from my console and bent the face on my old cassette deck. Idiot.

My trucks are noisey. I use that to my advantage. I put a electric fuel pump on, and hide the switch for it [not keyed on, you have to turn them on/off] So the people could start em up [and attact attention] but they wont get far! They made it 3 parking spaces in my 78 before it ran outa fuel. So they stole the demon carb, full sterio, cut all the wires, broke the new muncie M20 and hurst shifter etc. Never found em either

If I do Im tieing em to a chair, injecting 50hits of liquid acid into their eye balls, then letting some tweakers with pliers go at em for hours

The way I see it is if they want it bad enough they are gonna get it. I figure if they have already gotten in it....they can just as well keep it and I hope I never see it again.

I've heard there is a ignition lock out that hooks to the starter .........can't seem to remember who makes it.....

Anyone have an idea....?

Im thinking I need to put a kill switch in on my truck. I have heard that our rear sliding windwos are really easy to get into. I will definatley put one in before I start driving again.

VERY easy to get into! But, they are nice to have on a nice day. One thing you can do that I did, and naturally didn't do the night mine got borken into, is get 2 dowel rods cut to fit between the sliders and the edge of the window. Basically have something that keeps the sliders closed until you take it out. But, even with that it's not hard to bust the small piece of glass.

There are several options for a kill switch. I'm not going to post what I did on the Internet, that would be self-defeating to having a hidden switch.

If you have a manual trans you can easily hook a kill switch to the clutch safety switch. The clutch safety switch is pretty much a kill switch, I just over-rode it and made it an actual switch, instead of having to push the pedal in.

I agree with Dave. If they want it bad enough, they'll get it, but creating a hinderence might buy you some time if you aren't too far away from it.
From some of the stories I've heard here it sounds like many of you need to relocate. I wouldn't know how to live somewhere that you need to lock everything up all the time. I don't even know if my door keys work. Freind of mine left his keys in his truck at a bar one night and someone took it. The police found the truck the next day about 15 miles away with the keys still in it. It wasn't a new truck but it wasn't bad either.

Man, at least around here, an alarm is a waste of $$$, because they go off soo often from the owners, that no one pays any atteion, and these guys know it. So, they will continue to take as they please! Around here, a kill swich is really the only way to go, plus it's cheaper than a alarm.

I agree with Racedvl.I parked at a shopping mall one day beside this suped up honda,well i guess he had his alarm set pretty sensitive,cause the 3" exhaust that exits in front of my tires was enough to trigger this one off,i decided to sit there a bit.while sitting there,about 30 people walked by,never even awknowledged it.but what really threw me off was when the security van drove by and never even looked over at it.Guess they're getting sick of those alarms too.

I hate alarms too but The guys that tried to take it in the first night came back the next night and set it off at 6:30 in the morning. I ran outside and I didnt have my glasses on so I couldnt read there plates. So I guess in front of your house an alarm is good.
