fixed the muffler, now onto other noises
Hey guys,
I finally had a day where i could pull the truck out of the garage and accomplish a little something. I replaced the wire coat hanger with a real muffler hanger so the muffler wouldn't rest on the driveshaft anymore . Took it for a real test drive this time lol. I didn't go far though, just around the block so I could a feel for things. (i'll take it on a real drive once i get some tires for it that arn't scary looking). Anyways, the tranny does make hella noise. Some of it was the muffler on the driveshaft but otherwise yeah, it's still pretty noisy. It makes a light scraping noise in neutral while the engine is running until you push the clutch in. Once you go into gear it continues to make that noise. Thats the best way to describe it. It actually has really good power and nothing slips out of gear, it goes through all four gears, just makes this constant scraping noise. there could be more to it but thats all i have for now. still need to change the oil in it before i do anything else. Any thoughts? |

I would check the throw-out bearing in the transmission, as well as, the carrier bearing on the drive shaft, if you have one.

sounds more like the pilot bushing.
Usually, T/O bearings make noise when the clutch is being depressed, but I could be wrong. |

throw out bearings are noisy when the clutch is released, quiet with the pedal depressed

Re: fixed the muffler, now onto other noises
as per your last post on this topic-
Have you checked the fluid in your tranny yet? Checked differential fluid ? Checked driveshaft to make sure it's not hitting anything else? another far-out thought/ Are your tires/rims hitting anywhere? Keep us posted***
