TH350 crossmember wont bolt up

This truck was in pieces when i got it and was originally a 1968 2wd 327/3spdtruck . I have installed a 73-87 front crossmember, but that should not make a difference.
The problem i am having is when the motor/trans(350/350) is bolt to the frame stands(stands in rear holes). The transmission crossmember is about a 1/2" from lineing up with the frame holes. The transmission and trans crossmember were removed from a 71 C-20. Motor mount stands are supposed to be from the 327, and the rubber motor mounts are new from napa. Trans rubber mount is new also from napa.

Which way is the trans crossmember supposed to go in? It slopes at the trans mount. I have tried it both ways, bolts still dont line up..

Thanks
Jason

try moving the engine forward to the forward holes. That's where a small block is supposed to be. If you want it in the rear position, you'll probably have to drill the holes

Re: TH350 crossmember wont bolt up

I wondered if the motor was supposed to be in the forward holes, but thought that only the BB was in the forward holes.

However, the trans crossmember didnt look like it would have any holes at all if the motor moved forward. Guess that i am going to have to try it.

Is there any downside to moving the motor back in these trucks? Seems like the weight would be better if moved back.

As usual he is right. suppose to be in the forward holes. The advantage of this is it puts the fan closer in the shroud for cooling, and more clearance for the HEI. Disadvantage maybe the length of your present D/S.
