305 with 360 hp

Has anyone ever heard of a 305 engine pushing out 350-360hp. I found one for sale and it looks pretty good. The guy claims that the shop that built it speced it out at 350-360hp. If this is true I think i'll jump on it. What do you guys think?

Re: 305 with 360 hp

There was an article in engine masters about a 325 hp 305. They did head/cam swap and ran a double pumper. I would say 350hp is pushing the outer edge of the 305. Not saying they are full of it but that is a pretty radical setup if they are right. I have a 305 block in the garage that is just sitting there on a stand in the corner. If it is really a 350 hp mill I would like to get the specs on it and I would build one up.

I would demand proof personally.
I agree, it can be done, but the question to be asked.... why would you do it?

Re: 305 with 360 hp

Thanks guys I knew it was probably too good to be true. I stopped by and took a look at it today. The guy swore up and down that it was putting out 360hp, but the thing had stock heads on it. Now I'm no mechanic but I find it highly doubtfull that you can gain that much HP on stock heads. I took the casting numbers off the heads when he was busy talking to someone else and check them on Mortec.com Other than the chrome accents the thing looked pretty stock.

Re: 305 with 360 hp

I think it is very attainable, aren't nascar engines like 360 cubes putting out around 800 horse. The main question is why would you take on the endeavor, just rebuilding a 305 back to stock is considerably more expensive than the rebuild of a stock 350. I think the old saying is "there is no replacement for displacement".
