which brackets do i need?

i searched through 13 pages of old posts and still am not sure what i need to do. Heres what i got. I have a 68 frame, a 76 front crossmember and th400 tranny. I got my tranny back today and put the motor and tranny in the truck on the small block towers in the forward position. I then tried to put my dynomax headers on the motor and they hit the control arm. I want to move my motor to the rear position, can i use the v8 towers i have (68) or do i need the v6 towers to put the 350 in the back holes?

you can probably just move the V8 stands back 1 hole, but will need to drill the bottom hole in the crossmember(probably need to redrill the holes for the trans crossmember also). Center to center on the holes is right @ 2 1/2"(2 1/2" set back). due to the difference in the shape of the I6 vs V8 stands, using the I6 stands will give another 1" of setback(right @ 3 1/2", + or- 1/8"). the Hei dist does fit tight with the SB in I 6 position. what i have done on a couple of mine, was to drill the eng mount hole in the stand to 5/8", & slotted the holes on the trans crossmember , to gain a little "fudge factor" on the eng position. Good luck, crazyL

crazy longhorn, will the i6 stands use the same rubber motor mounts i have and also will the engine sit any higher or lower than with the v8 stands? thanks for the help, I could use a different header but these ceramic ones look too nice.

yes, the I6 & the SB use the same rubber mount, & as far as height, I couldnt find a measurable difference from 1 position to the other. there is a shot of mine in I 6 position, to give an idea of how it sits...... http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn
