WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

Need to find some wider wheels to get more tire and traction under the rear of our 71 C20. Looking for stock type wheels that will still accept stock dog dish hupcap to retain the stock look.

Anyone have anyhing ?

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

factory wheels were available in 16.5 x 8.25 and i believe kelsey hays made 16.5 x 9.75 that look close to OEM. shipping is the killer on these, it costs more to ship than they're worth, i was going to ship 4 of them to a boardmember in atlanta last year and it was over 50 bucks per wheel from california. greyhound might be cheaper but the closest terminal is over 30 miles from me so gas adds to the cost also.

No 16 inch wheels that were 8 inchs or so wide? ? I would pay the shipping for the right wheels. How about F*rd or D*dge ? I know the bolt pattern is the same, they have a larger hub hole, but would chevy hubcaps fit ?

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

Newer Ford vans have 16x7 wheels on them and they look pretty good. I have them on two of my trucks, my 72 2wd has LT245/75/16 tires on them, and my 71 4x4 has LT285/75/16 tires on them. The stock hub caps fit just fine also. I dont have a pic of the ones on my 2wd, but can get one if you want.

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

Thanks for the tip Joe, it's only 1/2 inch wider than stock, but it would be a step in the right direction. Do you know what the backspacing would be ? I'm hoping it is all to the outside.

I really want to run some 285/60 R16 - think min rim width is about 8 inches though.

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

Not sure of the backspacing, but the width is on the outside. They look a lot deeper than the 6 1/2" wide GM wheels. You will like them. You can find them on Vans from like the early-mid 90's and up to almost current. Easy find in your local salvage yard. They are stamped 16x7 right on the outside of the wheel, easy to identify!!!
Good luck!!!

Look up stockton wheel, they make stock style wheels any width you want with any backspacing, kinda cool I think.

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

Yep. looked at Stockton wheel, they want $155 each for an unpainted 16 X10, I don't think that includes shipping, I could do it, looking for options, but some say their service stinks, IDK.

Joe - that is a one nice looking 4x4 !! I really do like the the look of the F*rd rims on there.

I've been doing some digging - D*dge Ram 2500 year 2000-2002 had a 16x7.5 wheel available - anyone know anything about these like backspace or will Chevy hubcaps fit ??? Bolt pattern should be the same or not ? Or have any for sale ???

Holander number 2123 I think is the number.

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

I have a few sets of eight lug wheels for my 4-5-6 Chevy trucks, that will fit on your '76-'72. They accept the factory dog dish hub caps with the friction humps on the rims. They are painted white and currently have good 10 tires on them, that I would consider good runners.

I am not sure where Estherville, IA, but I make a routie trip to Des Moines, via I-35 north to I-20 east to Manchester every few months or I would be willing to meet you in Des Moines, IA, if that makes it a little easier.

Please let me know if I can help you with this set of 8 lug 16" wheels/tires.

Re: WTB - pair of 8 inch or wider stock style wheels for C20

I don`t think those Dodge wheels are hubcap type. They are more of a Rallye style with center caps.
Didn`t Ford vans go to metric when the pickups did in the late`90s?I run 285/75s on stock steel wheels on my`92 K3500.I have no crown problems. Those wheels are 6.5" I believe.
There never were wide 16" wheels because there never was wide 16" tires until the`90s.Since the late`70s custom wheels were all over the place,so even 16.5 oem center steelies were a rare site by them. Most wanted a wheel that was shiney for their money.

Lilred66 - how wide are those wheels you have ? Special-K, I would bet $50 that you are right, not what I want. Joesjunk has the best plan so far, cheap and easy to find wheels.

Those Dodge wheels look nice, just not what you`re wanting.Keep you $50 for the wheels. They look alot like the 1/2t GM truck rallyes w/o the dish.I`ll be looking for the E-Series wheels. The stock 16.5s were 7s weren`t they?I know,16.5 don`t come in the size/profile you want, but it`s the same look.
