I did a suspension swap on my '68 chevy with '84 chevy 5 lug disc. I know that you can put 88-98 spindles on the a-arms of the 68 by changing the bottom ball joints. Could you put 88-98 spindles on the a-arms of the 84? Help needed.

Yes. It still requires using a 3/4 ton lower a-arm because of the need for the larger diameter lower BJ.

I haven't personally compared the two spindles, but one would need to verify the spindle height, and stering arm location of the two spindles. It would be my first assumption that they are NOT the same. If they are not the same, you will encounter issues with the suspension and steering geometry.

Wouldn't be easier to just change the rotors to aftermarket 6-lug rotors and be done?

with the newer spindle, you can get parts at a local part store and not have to special order.
there are a few on here that have done the swap......

The only special order part would be the rotor itself. Everything else is standard 5-lug parts that are also readily available at your local auto parts store.

uh...yeah...that was my point, if you need a new rotor you have to order an aftermarket part.....some would prefer using OE parts, and being able to buy replacements locally....

Just a thought......If you purchase new aftermarket rotors, you will likely see 40-50 thousand miles service from them, as there is enough "meat" on them to turn them 2 or 3 times

IMO, in the long run you will save yourself some bucks, & a bunch of work.....crazyL

The reason I ask is because i recently went to a swap meet and there was a guy selling 2 in or 2 1/2 in drop spindles with rotors and calipers from a 88-98 chevy for 40 bucks. Whether i used them or not it was a deal but I let them go. Now i kick myself in the back side for doing so. Thank you guys.

the 88-98 spindle that work for the 6-lug conversion have to be 3/4 ton spindles (light duty 6-lug).
1/2 ton 88-98 won't work (5-lug). You did fine by not buying them.

I am lookin at a 87 2wd 1/2 pickup that is 5 lug,I have a 88 model W/T 6 lug 2wd truck that is in bad shape.So here's my question,can I take the 6lug W/T stuff and put on the 87 to change it to 6 lug.

I know everybody will want to know why and the reason is that I have a nice set of old school Boyd Posie II billet wheels that I bought several years ago and would like to put them back in use.

You'll need the previously mentioned 67-87 3/4 ton lower a-arm or you'll need to weld in the proper sized lower BJ hole into the current arms (88-98 arms will not work).

you can put a 88-98 light duty 3/4 ton 6 lug rotor on a 88-98 1/2 ton spindle. i converted my 99 2dr tahoe that way
