I have a 350/th350 combo in my k-10 with pretty much stock engine, except exhaust. If i'm going 40-45 mph on flat ground, it gears down to 2nd, no problem, but any faster than that or if i'm going up hill, it won't gear down, even though the rpm's aren't that high.
Is this normal?? i'm kinda new to automatics, so i'm not sure.
The tranny was rebuilt about 10k miles ago. Thanks for any hepl guys.

Have you adjusted the downshift cable? It is a very simple adjustment, but kinda hard to describe. There are two clips behind the bracket that holds the cable. You unsnap the clips, mash the pedal the floor, and snap them back. Takes all of two minutes. If you look at a service manual, I'm sure it would have some pics to make what I just said a lot more clear

Thanks tom hand. I don't have a service manual(yet), but I have a haynes manual.....is it in there? I assuming that this isn't normal then?

Should be in the Haynes manual somewhere Don't drive it too hard till it gets fixed you could burn out the tranny. When you hear it needs to drop to the lower gear drop it down at the coloum.

I have not talked to Bill yet either. I will let you know one night this week. Roofing has started up full time know so trying to get in touch with Bill could be tough! today was sooo nice Eh ? I got a sun Burn too.

Actually a TH350 will live forever even with the cable disconnected. It is the over drives that die from misadjusted cables.
Your kick down cable is most likely at fault. Onless they shop put a govenor assembly out of a deisel in there...then the kick down won't do anything to overcome the govenor.
