chassis build

Anybody here build their own frame? I'm tempted to build my own. I want to use 2x3 tubing. I just don't know what thickness? Any tips or advice please..thanks in advance....

With a fullsize truck I would probably run 2x4. You can get away with a .120 wall frame. 2x3 is just too small, and you don't need that kind of room under a fullsize cab.

I also agree with twisted! 2x4 .120. I have a bunch of pics of my builds in the links below. They both have custom built frames. Depending on where you mount your cab mounts you will have over 1" of clearance from the bottom of the rockers with 2x4 tubing.

All the c10 frames i have done are all 2x4 .120 wall incl the front and rear crossmembers.

I race my truck, so do I have to worry about flexing? I want to build my own frame to take weight off, that's the whole reason..

I wouldn't think you would save any weight by building a new frame. By the time i finish one with all the crossmembers, etc its about the same or a little more than a stock frame.

Absolutely you need to worry about flex. That needs to be taken into consideration in any frame build, race or not. It only becomes more critical in some applications.

You likely will not save any weight. You will probably add some if the frame is built right.
