Re: power steering flush
in 25 years of driving and owning cars/trucks ive never done such a thing unless i had to service the system and lost fluid and then i just replaced the missing fluid

Re: power steering flush
Yeah there shouldn't be any need to mess with it.

Re: power steering flush
Why do dealers and owners manuals say to flush it? Mine looks really really bad.

Re: power steering flush
I guess you could unhook a hose and drain into a bucket. It's one of those things I've never bothered with, a leak or replacement of a part is how the fluid get's replaced in my system.

Re: power steering flush
Maybe they tell you to do that so you come back to the dealership and they get more $$$ outof ya.
How are you determining that it looks bad? There's nothing that can go bad with it. Worst thing that can happen is it leaks, which won't be doing funky things to the fluid in the resovoir.

Re: power steering flush
Since 1975 i have replaced the high pressure PS line twice. Both time i flushed the old PS fluid and replaced it with fresh PS fluid that met GM specs.
The old fluid was nasty looking with fine steel particles in it.

Re: power steering flush
when i was rebuilding the motor in my truck, i took the PS pump (which was grimey) and summerged it in a little tub of engine degreaser with the cap off. the next day i sprayed it down inside and out with the water hose and the grime literally fell off. looked and performed like new.
