Re: how much should it cost me to ?

Since I'm in the dark on rebuilding an automatic, I had a friend of mine who's a master ASE certified mechanic tell me $200 to rebuild a 350 Turbo.

As far as $700 goes, you could buy a TCI for that and it would perform better plus TCI charges either $100 or $200 anytime the tranny needs rebuilding.

$500, with a warranty, sounds fair if that also inlcudes removal and installation

You should try getting a quote for a 727.... $1400

What transmission? There is a big difference in price depending on the model.

Re: how much should it cost me to ?

I have paid between 500-700 for most older automatics. If you pull it yourself you can get closer to 400. It doesn't take long for them to pull it. They have the lift and the tools to do the job quick. When I did it for a living I could pull a trans in a RWD truck or car in about 30 mins. Now that I am working on the ground and don't have a fancy jack it takes me about an hour+time to drain the tranny. All that said if you pay more than 700 total I think you are getting screwed unless you are getting a high stall torque convertor or a new valve body.

Re: how much should it cost me to ?

Your going to spend at the minum with shipping and etc $700 for a decent transmission. If you can't rebuild it yourself or have a buddy do it then $500 sounds pretty darn good if they give you a warranty and include removal and installation for that price.

Re: how much should it cost me to ?

Last year, I had my Turbo 400 rebuilt at one of the top tranny shops in L.A. Complete service, including R & R of the trans, was $700 out the door.
