do you have to cut into the bed supports when adding a 3" spindles/4" shackle-hanger kit?

For drop shackle install
If you have 56" leafs, no. If you have 52" leafs, yes.

The instructions will tell you. Basically, just above the shackle itself.

Just cut a 4-5" or so width out of the crossmember. You can just set the bed back on it and mark wher it needs the clearance. But I think it was about 18" in from the outside edge. Not 100% sure on the distance, just the number that came into my head.
