Poll: I need help!!

I cant decide which color to go with. I was thinking about painting the valve covers and intake orange to make it look original. I have another set of valve covers i can go use to paint. The ones that are on it are black powdercoated. They have been sitting on a shelf awhile the look better cleaned up.

Anyway what do you guys think? Leave it as is or paint it to make it original looking?

Re: Poll: I need help!!

I guess it would depend on how the rest of your truck is restored?

Re: Poll: I need help!!

Its not really going to get restored. At least not now anyway. Right now the plans are to put the engine in it and use it for all the things a pickup is for.

It is however for most purposes original. Its had the tranny changed at one point (still a three speed) and i have the original still. And the heads are changed to the vortec style. oh and the rims are not original. So far thats the only mods. Rest of the truck is original thats why I was kinda thinking of painting the engine the original colors but now I cant decide.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

How about a set of these?

The black doesn't look good with the orange, IMO. Chrome, aluminum, or orange valve covers would look much better. I think the intake looks great as is.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

I like the concealed hot motor look, personally.Especially in a stock-ish looking truck.I put a crate LS6 454/450hp in a truck with `69 396 dressing. It takes reserve to fight the temptation to not show off your mods.Like wheels, that`s why wide steel stock center wheels fell off the map. Most want more flash for thier dollar. But,class ain`t for everyone.
I still have a pair of GMPP "Chevy Power" valve covers with the bowtie. They are like stock stamped steel covers but embossed.I didn`t get the chrome, like most would.i thought it was so cool they offered them in bare metal so they would blend in but still be custom.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

It's totally up to you and your preference. Either way would look fine, but I voted with what I personally went with: make it look original. I recently upgraded to an aluminum intake, but I painted it orange so hide that it's aftermarket.

I agree with ya on this. I have always liked the sleeper look. Although My truck is not a powerhouse by no means I still like the stock look. I am also considering now just painting the other set of valve covers i have orange and leaving the intake and going for that factory performance motor look like the camaros and sporty cars had. Not sure if the edelbrock carb i was planning on running will pull that off though. I think ill prolly need a holley for that.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

Well, I hate to do this to ya, but I'm changing my vote. With all of the black painted accessories, especially the air intake, the black covers look better.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

The black valve covers look really good. The orange isn't bad, but I really like the black.

What color(s) is the rest of your engine bay? If you have a black firewall/inner fenders then the orange may look better in the bay just to give it a bit more color.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

The black needs to match better IMO.
But if you have black center bolts and black rubber for the pvc etc. it will look good too.

Re: Poll: I need help!!

You could buy the adapters to run the aluminum covers and detail them - paint them all black but leave the fins natural or some semblence, so that it ties into aluminum intake and with the accessories as well.

Do you have a link to the adaptors? Ive never seen a set. That would look good though.
