Suspension Question
I have a 70 4x4 blazer with I think a 6 inch lift and 36 inch tires that was installed sometime before I bought it. I have had lowered 67-72 trucks and muscle cars but this is my first 4x4. The ride seems ok but the steering seems to be kinda all over the place. It still has the stock pitman arm and steering arm .My question is should there be either a raised steering arm, drop pitman arm or both ? The draglink that connects these together looks to be at a pretty extreme angle. It also has a single steering stabilizer and think with the tire size it should be a double stabilizer ? I am also wondering if the power steering box could be part of the problem ?

Re: Suspension Question
The steering box may be contributing to the problem, afterall it might be 39 years old. It should have a dropped arm on it. It will help a lot. I have 35's on with a single stabilizer, and it is fine. I have a dropped pitman arm on mine. But I also have a rebuilt steering box. Don't use dual stabilizers to cover up a weak box.

Re: Suspension Question
Pics are worth a thousand words
Post up what you got and ye shall be informed The adjustable draglink should be level, I had a raised steering arm on my 4" lift. There is a set screw on the sterring box to take out the steering wheel slop, just don't over tighten the set screw as your box will run hot Get a pic posted

Re: Suspension Question
Some may argue that when you get your steering geometries lined up appropriately and tires balanced, no stabilizer is needed.
I would speculate that unless the steering box is moving on or ripped off its mounts, you are suffering from the other issues you mention. |

Re: Suspension Question
Another thing to consider would be a broke frame at the steering box. You might be able to see it with the box on but more than likely if you remove the box you will see a break in the frame which is repairable by some weld on aftermarket braces.

Re: Suspension Question
Thanks for the info guys. Sorry I did'nt reply sooner but had to go out of town. Would like to do cross over steering but the possibility of getting laid off from work doesn't make me want to spend to many $$$ right now. I am pretty much trying to decide between the raised steering arm or drop pitman arm and will also try to adjust the screw on the steering box. I didn't see any damage at the frame where the box mounts. And I will get pics up at the end of the week.
