Oil Pressure Sender
I replaced my oil pressure sender a couple weeks ago. It works now, just not at the right range. It stays at about 12psi at idle and about 18 cruisin. I know this isn't right. What could cause this? Wrong sender unit? I did put teflon tape on the threads - could that cause a bad ground? I don't think my truck has a ground strap from the block to the frame either. The engine has never been swapped or had ANY major overhaul so I can't figure out why it would be missing. Where is it on the 85s?

Remove the tape. There should be nothing on the threads.

If your engine is missing the ground strap you should add one. They are cheap and easy to find.

If they happened to give you a sender from an 80 PSI gauge from a large truck (doubt it ) then it would do that. keep in mind that the gauges are junk also. I should know with all the dashes I've redone. In the 85 I just bought the OP, Gas & temp gauge were bad. those stinking OP sending units are high $$ too! I have a few good old ones that I keep around from parted out trucks. call the store you bought it from and go through what you want it for and see if they give the same part number as what is on your empty box? Good luck, DAVE
