New to the boards!

Thought I would say hi cause i know not everyone reads the welcome section everyone seems well schooled in these trucks this is my first one, got a 292 with a 4sp, just got it last week for $800.00 missing the bolt in tranny tunnel and the bed floor is crap floors have been patched up badly but ok for now and 292 runs pretty bad looking to refresh it. Glad the tranny tunnel was out cause the bolts were loose in the tranny had to stop and tighten them on the way home cause the whole tranny was coming loose(LOL).

Looks like a pretty nice truck. My truck had a 292 with a 4 speed, but now I have a 5 speed.

Re: New to the boards!

Welcome to the best 67-72 place on earth!!Sounds like the truck is in fair shape.Bogging may be caused by a poor tune.Try running a compression check to see exactly where you're starting from.I have had them be real dogs like you describe and found a tune up did wonders. The body looks well taken care of but repaints are always scary since you can't tell how the bodywork was done.

Well I used a 83 Camaro T-5 because mine had a 80 Camaro saginaw 4 speed. But if you want to use a bench seat, I heard that NV3500 and NV4500 are great 5 speeds out of the 90s Silverados.

Re: New to the boards!

Very nice truck to fix up.
That 4spd is really a 3 spd with an extra granny low to get a very heavy load (trailer etc.) started. Don't bother with it unless you are pulling some serious weight.Just start out in 2nd. As mentioned above by PanelDeland check out the basic stuff and tune it up. It should pull OK in each gear.
