How far back does the motor need to set for best transfer

IMO the higher up and the farther back the better. Unless, you can store mad energy to through the weight back. Or, do both

In all reality, I'm sure there is a optimum distance and height based on wheel base length. Just like everything else, I'm sure it's a full package thing.

I have my motor about 1 inch higher than stock and about 75 percent back of the center of the front wheels, and i have installed a motor plate. My headers seem to be fine and i have enough for my valve covers to clear,im thinking with it higher like you say, and with the most of the load aft of the front wheels it may be ok,thanks super73 for your input.

Alot of It depends on power ! The more power you have the lower it can be and work better. Less power, you want to mount it a little higher to transfer the weight better. On a truck I think the motor needs to be as far back as you can get it because of %'s. That's just my opinion.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't it say in the NHRA rule book that the number one cylinder cant be father back then the front spindle? So if that right that's as far as you could move it back but just moving the motor back that far would probably be a dramatic difference.

There's different rules for different sanction's. It's all in what you want to run. Most I've seen are in % of wheel base. Example 115 in. wb would be 1.5 in @ 10 percent.
