Leaf vs. Coil
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the site but you guys definitely have some impressive rides! I was just curious what you guys prefer- the rear leaf or coil suspension? What are the pros and cons. I have both frames and cannot decide which to use. |

I have one of each...both have been changed from stock but both ride nicely. I would look at other items to make the decision about what to use. If you are bagging I would go with the coil spring frame. My .02

I don't think I will be bagging as I don't have the budget for it. I may go with a slightly lower than factory stance though. I just want the truck to handle really well. I have had 60-63 chevy's for years but I have never actually changed one from stock or fixed one up cosmetically so this is all new for me. Thanks for the info.

If you are planning on lowering your truck, you can use the tradition 'flip kit' for losing 4 or 5'' off the rear of the leaf spring frame in a budget friendly manner...there are always many expenses in putting stuff together as we all know.

The leaf springs don't allow as much wheel hop and usually handle heavy loads better. But the coils give a far better ride and handling. If you're looking for a daily driver, coils are the way to go. If it's a performance truck you need a 4 link. And if it's a regular hauler, leaf springs or coils with a leaf overload.

Thank you Fred. I am looking for a daily driver that handles more like a late model vehicle. The most I may haul with it is a small jon boat short distances so not much weight. I doubt I will haul anything in the bed really.
