Angry "Yeah that smell is octane 93 honey" *%&$%^$#

Well this morning after getting off work and I come home to see the truck leaking gas bad. Almost a constant drip. My wife had mentioned that she could smell more gas last night and I knew that the truck has a leak but this is got worse. So I get under the truck at the valve and take off the supply hose. The vent hose is already plugged off at the valve. When I take it off I get doused with fuel. Literally soaked in it!! So then I reconnected the hose and got out and dried off enough to disconnect the battery cable to prevent anything starting or sparking. Then I took the water hose and washed the gas off the driveway and engine. I'm now waiting on the area to dry and retry. So I'm thinking one of two things now.

Either the pressure is so built up that it's flowing out like crazy and will just need to grab it with a bucket and kill the ant beds and let it finally bleed the pressure off.

Or

My sending unit is constantly on. Now I don't know why this is but it seems like it would contribute to the constant leaking.

I do have return vent line capped but I don't think this would mae that big of a difference

I thought you were trying to recite the Dodge/Jeremy Mayfield commercial when I read the topic!

I don't know what your problem could be?

Me and Dave were on AIM. I just carried it over to here.

I'm going to let it dry out and then see if the pressure is still there and catch it with a hose and bucket. Then off to fire ant hills out back I'm hoping that it's just pressure built up and not the sending unit.

Brandon,

do you have a vent anywhere in the tank/lines? You must have a vent somewhere to let the pressure off. I don't know if this would cause it to leak at the valve or not though. Why are you capping the return line? My thinking is, if no return line, no vent at the carb or charcoal canister, you need a vented gas cap.

I may be talking out my ass here though. I'm sure it's something pretty simple. Seems it always is and we just overlook the simple things and jump on the hard.

Good luck with it, and be real careful with the gas and battery cables. The least spark can set it off like a stick of dynamite. We for sure don't want to hear about you being burned badly in a gas fire, or your truck.

I think you're right Mike. I'll loosen the gas cap and try to see if that helps. Hopefully it will. The reason I quit the vented line is because I thought that was leaking. The return line at the pump is blocked off as well as at the valve. I'm betting that's the problem. I'm going to drain the lines as much as possible and probably even totally take the battery out like you mentioned to be extra safe.

Yeah been on fire with a previous truck and don't want that to happen again!!

BTW: I agree that this wouldn't cause a leak. I think that was from something different to cause that.
