68 Chevy Shortbed Fleetside
As I explained in my initial post, my Name is Roger, and I was restoring a 67 Checy C-10 , when I had to sell it 5 years ago due to Finances.
With the Wifes blessing, she has given the me the "OK" to purchase another one!!! That being said, I've got my eye on one and I think I've been asking all the right questions. The Truck is a 3 hour drive from me so I've been extensivly asking every question under the sun, to see if its worth my while to drive there. One thing that sounded "strange" to ME (and mayby not to the seasoned members here, is that he said its got a Big Block from a Pontiac in it. Now I've heard of 396/427/454, but what type of big block does Pontiac have and what typoe of Automatic Tranny would hook up to that? 350/400/700R4? He doesnt know what type of Tranny it has, He traded the original owner for it about 2 months ago. Thoughts/Opinions/Questions??? Roger |

Re: 68 Chevy Shortbed Fleetside
Can you test drive it? That would help you make your decision much easier.
I think Pontiac had a 326, 350, 400. maybe that is what they consider a small block? Not too sure, but the 396, 421 and 455 were based on the same engine. Trans can be anything from a powerglide, to a turbo 400.

Re: 68 Chevy Shortbed Fleetside
Not sure about big block pontiac, but I think (I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) that spinning wheels is correct about trans could be anything in gm lineup. To bolt to the pontiac motor trans is known as a BOP (buick, olds, pontiac) transmission. If I remember correctly, it will bolt up to a chevy small or big block as well, but a chevy trans will not fit in the BOP cars. Like I said, I think this is right, I am sure someone else will chime in about this. If the truck runs good as is, I would not be afraid to buy because of the motor. All the pontiacs I have been around ran strong, but they can be a bit more pricey for parts.

Re: 68 Chevy Shortbed Fleetside
Traded my 96 Tahoe for a 72 GMC Shortbed Fleetside, instead of the Truck described above.
I needed pictures before I drove 3 hours (one-way) to see it and the guy never came through, so I told him, without any pictures I couldn't go any further. Roger P.S. You can see the new thread here at: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=337922
