Ok I have a new 350 for my truck, i am think while it is being replace it might be time for a new auto tranny. I have access to a TH400 out of a 74 chev or a rebuilt r700. I think i need a new cross member for this any ideas? will the cross member from a 70-72 chev with an auto work? what about the 700 what have you guys used for a cross member?
Thanks Vance |

Re: New Cross Member for Auto Tranny
Hey guys, this is a forum for gathering info. Not buying/selling parts.
If you need a part, then go to the parts board and make a request. If you are unable to post there, then you need to become a subscribing member first. Remember that sales in private message are against the rules too. These rules are put in place to help protect the buyer, and seller, and keep scamming to a minimum. This is why we have so many peopel so willing to spend money on the parts page, becouse we can trust one another. These are rules that everyone has had to agree to on here regardless of how long you have been a member. If you are unsure or unaware of what you can or can not do, please look over the rulkes, located at the top of every page on this board in the sticky threads. |

Re: New Cross Member for Auto Tranny
I have a crossmember from a 69 in my truck and the 700 r4 bolted on just fine. just be sure and get the right trans mount for your 700r4. before I put in the 700 though I had a turbo 350 long tailshaft in it and it also worked just fine

I tried to install a deeper Derale pan on my turbo 350 and it wouldn't clear the crossmember. Now that I want to install a 700r4, with a deeper pan I am hoping not to run into clearance problems.

Re: New Cross Member for Auto Tranny
When I put the turbo 350 and trans member in I had cut the member so I could remove the pan without having to unbolt the crosmember. This was the best decision I evermade. But I havent seen any clearance problems on my friends uncut crossmember with a 700 r4

Re: New Cross Member for Auto Tranny
I like the idea of holding more trans fluid. Much like having a larger radiator, the added fluid helps dissipate heat. In addition to a deeper pan, I run a trans cooler, with plans to add a engine oil cooler.
I might add, I live in a warm part of the California, with a lot of stop and go traffic.
