208 to 205 transfer case

Hi All,

I am looking at what it will take to do the following conversion. I have a 1983 Chevy 3/4 ton long bed four wheel drive. It currently has a 465 and 208 transfer case. I recently picked up a 205 transfer case, and then purchased a new input gear that has 32 splines instead of the 10 spline that is in it now. My output shaft is 32 spline on the transmission. I am looking for the cast iron adapter for mounting the transfer case to the transmission. What else is going to need changed in order to get this up and running.. Drive shafts? I am doing this because I wanted the ratio of the 205 instead of the lower ratio of the 208.

Re: 208 to 205 transfer case

Need to find out how long the output shaft is on the 465 now. I don't think they made/make the adaptor, but I could be wrong, not up on my standard tranny's. It's for TH400s, but link shows the different lengths of inputs for 205s.

Whoops, reread your post, thought you needed a spud shaft, not the adaptor. Might be able to use your existing one, just redrill the front of the 205.

Re: 208 to 205 transfer case

Hi Again,

Ok, I have purchased the transmission, adapter, and transfer case. Now can someone send me a picture of a drive shaft that we need to use in this application now? I believe the one I have now will not work because there is no slip joint on the rear..? What do I need?

Here is a pic of the rear of the NP205/SM465 combo and driveshaft of my 83 K30 dually before I did the frame swap. Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting a reply.. Your picture make it look as though your 205 had a slip in driveshaft as mine has a yoke bolted on.. Am I seeing this correctly?
