I need some help!

I bought a new heater/ac control for my truck and for the life of me i can't get the cables to operate, without binding up. Question #1 Is there a trick to routing the cables, or is it pretty much hit and miss?

Question #2 What has to happen in order to make the defrost work, i have air coming out of all vents except the defrost vents?

Question #3 Is it safe to say, that all of the blend doors are closed in the left position? i have the cables pushing the doors open, should they be pulling instead?

I know that this is a lot to ask, but i am lost. Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: I need some help!

I can only answer a part of your questions and keep it at the top.
I had cables that would not move. They were so bad I eventually broke a lever. The levers by the way are made of "pot" metal. When I rebuilt the control I took all the cables out and cleaned them in a parts washer. Then I clamped the end in a vise and used WD-40 and PB Blaster to loosen them and get them to slide in their sheath's.After they were freed up good I left them laying in a drain (full of used oil)pan for a couple days while I rebuilt/painted the controls and such. This has kept them free for 10 years or so.Just some info to help get/keep those cables working.
BTW I occassionally spray a little graphite lube in the exposed end to help keep them operating.

Hey Dave,

I think there is a really good pic of routing in the Factory Assembly manual...you got one??...if not, I'll snap a pic of it for you....

Re: I need some help!

The routing of the cables only has to be done in such a way as to avoid creating sharp bends or possible kinking areas, your Defrost will work with the top lever moved to far right and the fan switch on...are the hoses connected to the windshield vents? when I push my sliders all to the left the vent door in the PS footwell opens. All my AC under the Hood was stripped out by the PO so not sure how all that is supossed to work..

Every thing is to the left is for A/C. The top cable is the defrost. To the left it's open but push the slider toward the right it closes making the defrost blow out those vents.Look at the bottom of the duct work in the cab right under the controles. The cable is right in front of you. It should be extended out with the slider to the left.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: I need some help!

With the A/C on (all levers to the left) your passenger kick panel door should be open, allowing for air recirculation. If not, your output volume at the vents will suffer tremendously. Your cowl panel door under the hood should be closed (keeping outside air from mixing in, and driving up the temp of the air you are trying to cool). The heater by-pass valve on your inner fender should also close to prevent the heater core from heating up and defeating the A/C.

With the heat/defrost on, your kick panel vent door should close, and the cowl vent door should open, allowing for outside air to come in and be heated by the heater core. The by-pass valve should also open and allow anti-freeze to flow thru the heater core

Re: I need some help!

Thanks guys for the help. I worked on that thing all day Saturday. The new control has three vacuum ports on it, where do i get the vacuum from? My motor has been changed, so nothing is where it should be. I bought new cables, one long, one medium and one short. I have the long one running out to the box under the hood. I have the next one running up and behind the glove box and the short one is running down to just above the center floor vent. I have the service manual but it was not written for us dummies.lol
